Get to know our staff!
This week, we get to know Miss Lea…
Here are some things we’d like to know…
Where are you from?
Well, I was born and raised in Philadelphia, but when I was 10, we moved to Carbon County. It was a big change, being in the city to being in the open air of the mountains, but I liked it, I feel at home here.
Where did you go to school?
When I was in Elementary through Middle school, and for my Freshman and Sophomore year, I attended Panther Valley. I didn’t thrive there like I’d wanted to, and it was only after getting accepted to CCTI (Carbon Career and Technical Institute) that I feel I became the person I am now. It’s some of the best memories I have, that school.
Did any teachers make an impact on you?
Yes, definitely, 4 teachers specifically. Mr. and Mrs. Baumgardt, Mrs.Klock, and Mr.Wildoner. Mr. Baumgardt was my history teacher, and one of my favorites because he really cared what happened to his students, not to say others didn’t, but Mr. Baumgardt really knew how to get on his students level, and share similar interests. Mrs. Baumgardt probably had me the closest to laughing until I cried, and her Advanced Placement class was one of my favorites and really threw my love for writing into action. Mrs. Klock was my technical area instructor, and helped my love for art grow 10x bigger than it was. I learned a lot of my design techniques from here, and I still use the skills she taught me. And above all, Mr. Wildoner, is the closest to me. He taught me that sometimes being what others don’t expect is a good thing, and I feel like I gained a very, very longtime friend in him. To this day, he stills checks up on me and he’ll always be my favorite mentor.
If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go?
Ireland, hands down. I’ve always wanted to go there and I think I’ll never be satisfied until I’m standing in Dublin.
What are some of the things you do in your spare time?
I like to paint, and sketch. It’s one of the only things I openly pride myself on. I also love gardening, I have a very green thumb and it’s fun to watch my plants, and my 4 cacti grow.
What did you always think you’d be when you got older?
When I was younger, I wanted to either be a Marine/Wildlife Biologist, or I wanted to be an artist living in New York. I’m very happy with where I turned up, however, and where I’ll be going.
Any advice for students interested in being tutored by you?
It’s always fun to play games, but hard work is what I like to get done. I believe students can achieve anything if they have a teacher that believes in them and is willing to work with their weaknesses and strengths to assure they have a wonderful future. I’d be excited to meet any new students!
