I was just reading an article in our local paper about how students succeed even if the reports on the schools are bad. The local schools where I live don’t do well, especially with the new “Common Core” testing standards, and the school boards wanted to showcase that they have former students who are doing fantastic things in the world. The schools seemed to want us to believe that they are the ones responsible for the few successes out there – but never talk about those students that they failed to help. I’m sure your schools are like that as well.
While any of these schools may have a teacher or two who can ignite the passion within a child, I would like to propose that it is the PARENT who backed the child and gave them what they needed to succeed. Every child needs a champion – are you one for your child? Think about it carefully – come September, you get them new clothes, new backpacks, new pencils, new notebooks but do you REALLY and TRULY give them what they need?
All children need parents who love them unconditionally and who will expand their horizons, feed their imaginations (not just their bellies), and show them that they can be whatever they want to be. No one but you can do that for your child on a continual and consistent basis.
Every child is different, and no one know them better than you do. Don’t be absent parents. Don’t push off your child’s future to someone you want to believe knows better than you. If you don’t know what to do, find a coach or someone else who sees your kids for what they are, not what society wants them to be. Learn about what interests your child and get them the help they need to be all they can be. When you give your children a strong foundation in education as well as love, the results will be AMAZING!
